I’ll admit it, I slacked on taking personal pictures in 2020.
I couldn’t have imagined I could go weeks, let alone months, without picking up my camera – but that’s exactly what happened. I know it was a challenging year for everyone, but instead of documenting that part of our family history, I recoiled into a Netflix-binging ball of stress. I didn’t create, I didn’t do anything for months.
Here we are at the start of 2021, with another lockdown in-progress (in my part of the world anyway), and this time, I am so relieved to have a project that is going to get me motivated, creating and documenting my life and I want you to join me.
I live with a grumpy husband, a couple of teenagers, and the handsomist kitty. None of them want to be a part of my projects anymore, so, don’t worry if you don’t have littles to photograph, or a perfect home, this project is going to be about you as a creator, and together we’ll find new ways of seeing our lives.

WEEK 1 – Self-Portraits
Remember in grade school, on the first day when the teacher made you say your name and something about yourself and you cringed a little (or a lot) on the inside? Well, here we are again. But this time, you can make your portrait ANYTHING you want. It doesn’t have to be perfect or a work of art – it just needs to be you.
Trust me, I am cringing just as much as anyone about this assignment – but we can do it! I can’t wait to get to know you all through your self-portraits.
When you’re ready, post your image in the Facebook Community, and on IG share using #HL52_1.
Remember, your image can be just you, you with family, or even a representation of you. Can’t wait to see!
