4 Lighting Tips You Need To Know

Building a website for your photography business

Hosting

Siteground

Siteground is an amazing hosting company.  Their hosting is fast and efficient and so is their customer service which is extremely important to me!

WordPress

Divi Theme for WordPress

I use WordPress for all my sites, including this one and my photography website, carolinahanna.com.  I love the flexibility it gives you to do anything you want.

Once you get your hosting set up, you can easily install WordPress for free from your hosting platform.

Divi allows you to create your website using an easy drag and drop builder.  It is WONDERFUL!  You don’t need to know how to code to build your own website.

Themes & Education

The Design Space

Melissa Love from the Design Space has amazing templates that will help you get your Divi site up in no time!

She’s also got a class teaching you how to build your own website, you can get it in her Marketing Fix membership here!

CLIENT AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT (CRM)

Dubsado

Finally found the PERFECT CRM!  I tried them all and found them way too overwhelming…until Dubsado.  It’s straightforward and has amazing features to streamline your business, not to mention a client portal, workflows, bookkeeping etc.  Also, their customer service is amazing… Use code CH for 20% off your first month or year!

EMAIL MARKETING

Mailerlite

I just switched to Mailerlite for my email marketing.  It’s simple, easy to use and the free account includes key features that some of the competition makes you pay for.

FINANCES

Quickbooks

I use Quickbooks to keep track of all my business spending and earnings – it makes doing my taxes so much easier.  Use this link for 50% off your first 6 months.

CLIENT GALLERIES

Pic-Time

I use Pic-Time for my client galleries.  I have tried them all (the others are good too) but Pic-Time looks AMAZING and their shop will put your client’s images in the products so they can really visualize what it’ll look like.  Try a month for free with code GGBT6W!

FILE BACKUPS

BackBlaze

10 years ago one of my harddrives failed and I didn’t have a backup.  Devastated doesn’t explain how I felt.  I lost pictures of my kids.  It still hurts me to talk about it.

Last year, another of my headdrives failed and I didn’t stress over it, why?  Because all my files are backed up with Backblaze.

Backblaze is a cloud backup of your computer and all your external drives.  Getting it set up might be really long if you have as many files as I do, but it’s so worth it knowing all my work and famly pictures are safe if, God forbid, we should have a fire or another drive failure.  Use my link to get a month free.

CREATIVE & POST PROCESSING

IMAGE EDITING

Adobe Photoshop + LR

Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and the standard in photo retouching. I mainly use Lightroom for all my work and use photoshop for any extra editing I need to do.  If you’re serious about becoming a professional photographer, you should invest in the Photoshop/Lightroom bundle that Adobe offers for only $9.99/month.

DESIGNING CLIENT GUIDES ETC.

Canva

Canva lets you design EVERYTHING you need for your business fast and painlessly!   I used to do everything in photoshop or Indesign, but since discovering Canva a few months ago, I do everything in there.  It’s just so fast and straightforward, anyone can do it.

I’ve got the pro account because I sell some Canva templates in the shop, but the free account should be perfect for most needs.

EDITING PRESETS

The Evergreen Set

I don’t usually love presets, but the Evergreen set works so well!  I use these and the Home Stories set for EVERYTHING!

BLOGGING & IMAGE PREP

BlogStomp

Blogstomp is an amazing tool lets you make collages of images for your blog.  You just pop in the images, select the ones you want and it does all the work for you.  I have had this for many years and it’s 100% one of my favorite things I’ve ever used!  And it’s only $49!

SpaceSaver

Spacesaver lets you reduce your image file size without reducing the quality of your image.  This is a must have for images going on your website to make sure you don’t slow down your site loading time.
